Application Software

Application software is a type of program that configures a computer for the purpose of completing a specific task. For instance, a person may want to create a spreadsheet so they may use a Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Works application to complete this task.

Word processing programs such as Microsoft Word, Notepad, or similar programs. Applications can also be grouped in bundles as well, such as Microsoft Office, which contains quite a few different programs in one, such as work processing, editing, and calculation tools.

Variations Of Different Types Of Applications

One type is as mentioned above, the application suite. This is what bundles different aspects of programs together, such as those that are designed for the offices, such as Open Office.org or Microsoft Office (mentioned earlier).

Other types of software are more of ones that perform only one single function. For instance, web-based and desktop-based spell checks only check documents for word and grammar errors.

Another type of software embedded programs. These are the type in which the application and the operating system are not easily distinguishable to one another. One type of such is that of a DVD or microwave oven.

A similar type of program that is not easily recognizable is one that uses a combination of different computer programs together. One example of this is programs of the .dll extension.

There is not a specific icon that opens this type of file extension, nor a specific type of file that needs to be installed. It is a type of plug-in used to run specific programs. There are many other plug-ins that are found on the Web that are downloaded as well-such as ones needed to operate computer media players.

An entirely different type of software program is one that is used to help create a database of some sort. For example some companies may decide to measure statistics, such as customer relationship management, or supply and demand chain records.

Database software is also an application used to create computer-generated mailing lists. These can be printed off for both internal and external office purposes.

A specific type of software application is used for the creation and/or operation of media files and media players. Media files include those that allow music to be streamed or downloaded from a website, or those that allow for web browsing or game playing.

Other computer applications are used for running educational software. This is a type of software application that helps make computer learning more interactive. It is also a way that helps both children and adults learn when no one else is even around to teach them.
